Bulgaria nationwide GNSS toll and e-vignette
Operational
Overview
Nationwide road charging system run by Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency, combining an e-vignette for light vehicles, introduced in 2019, with distance-based GNSS tolling for vehicles above 3.5 tonnes from March 2020, on a network of more than 16,000 km. Kapsch TrafficCom designed, built and delivered the system: geolocation platform, commercial back office, enforcement with video-based controls and weigh-in-motion, and sales through the web, mobile apps and self-service terminals, with integration of national service providers and EETS. Kapsch reports that toll income rose by about 10% compared with the former paper vignette.
